Luxury Wedding Breakdown: Where $100,000–$250,000 Goes
Every line of a luxury Ontario wedding budget, in the same order you'd spend it
A luxury wedding budget in Ontario runs $100,000 to $250,000 and up — but the number alone says very little. What makes it luxury is where the money concentrates: a marquee venue, a full design and planning team, live music, and florals that transform a room rather than decorate it. Here is the whole budget, line by line, with realistic 2026 ranges for an 80–120 guest celebration.
Venue, catering & bar — $50,000–$120,000
Half the budget lives here, exactly as it does at every tier. At the luxury level that means a landmark hotel ballroom, private estate, or winery buyout ($15,000–$50,000+ in rental alone), plated multi-course dining at the top of the $90–$180-per-guest range or beyond, and a premium open bar at $35–$70 per guest with signature cocktails and champagne service. Buyouts, extended hours, and late-night service push the ceiling — and this line sets the tone every other decision follows.
Photo & video — $12,000–$25,000
Luxury coverage means a lead photographer with a second (often third) shooter, a cinema-style video team, full-day coverage from getting ready to send-off, and often an engagement session and same-day edit. The premium over a standard $3,000–$5,000 package buys experience under pressure, deeper galleries, and film-grade production — the one line item that appreciates after the wedding is over.
Flowers & decor — $15,000–$40,000
The most visible difference between tiers. This range moves past centerpieces into full installations: ceremony structures, suspended pieces, staircase and entrance treatments, and rooms re-lit and re-draped to the design plan. For scale, a single ceremony arch runs $500–$2,500 and centerpieces $75–$250 each — a luxury floral plan multiplies both across every surface guests see.
Entertainment — $10,000–$25,000
A live band carries a luxury reception: typically 6–10 pieces, cocktail-hour musicians, and DJ support for the late set. Bands book out 12–18 months ahead at this level, and riders (staging, sound, lighting, meals) belong in the budget line, not the surprise column.
The wedding planner — $10,000–$25,000
Full-service planning and design is what makes a budget this size executable: venue and vendor sourcing, design boards, contract negotiation, production schedules, and a day-of team. A good planner also pays for part of themselves — they know which vendors flex, where the quiet discounts live, and which line items are theatre.
Fashion — $10,000–$25,000
Couture or custom gowns, a second reception look, custom tailoring for the groom, and accessories. Alterations at this level are their own line — factor them in rather than absorbing them late.
Hair & makeup — $3,000–$6,000
Lead artists with assistants, trials for both, day-of touch-up coverage through the reception, and often services for the wedding party and family. Travel and early-start fees are standard and worth confirming in writing.
Cake & desserts — $2,500–$6,000
A tiered showpiece cake plus a dessert program — patisserie tables, late-night stations, favours from the same kitchen. At luxury scale the cake is part of the decor plan and photographed accordingly.
Stationery — $2,500–$6,000
Letterpress or foil invitation suites, calligraphy, day-of menus, place cards, escort displays, and signage designed as one system. Paper is the first and last touchpoint guests keep.
Transportation & extras — $8,000–$15,000
Guest shuttles, car service for the couple and families, valet, and the extras layer: photobooth, welcome bags, after-party, next-day brunch. This is also the natural home of the contingency — even luxury budgets should hold 5% unallocated.
Reading this against your own number
Two things stay true at every budget: venue, catering and bar take 40–50% of the total, and hidden costs — HST at 13%, gratuities, vendor meals, alterations, late-night food — add 5–10% on top of everything above. If your number is closer to $40,000 than $140,000, the same structure applies with different ceilings; the discipline of assigning every dollar a line before booking is what luxury planners are really selling.
