Creating a Stunning Love Birds Grazing Board
Two matching birds, one board — components and step-by-step
The love birds board is one of the sweetest shaped grazing builds for a wedding, shower, or engagement party: two rounded birds facing each other, beaks almost touching, built entirely from cheese, light meats, fruit and crackers. It looks intricate; it's genuinely doable. Here's everything you need and the four stages to build it.
What You'll Need
• Pale cheeses for the two bodies (brie, white cheddar, havarti)
• Folded turkey or prosciutto
• Crackers for the wing and tail feathers
• Green grapes & cucumber
• Carrot slivers for the beaks
• Olives for the eyes
• Fresh rosemary
A large board or butcher block gives the two birds room to face each other with space around the edges.
Step 1 — Shape the two birds
Lightly sketch the layout first: two small rounded birds facing each other, beaks almost touching in the centre of the board. Keeping the silhouettes simple — round body, small head — is what makes the shape read instantly once it's filled.
Step 2 — Build the bodies
Fill each bird's outline with pale cheeses and light meats: cheese cubes and folded turkey or prosciutto packed snugly so no board shows through. Work from the outline inward, and keep the two bodies as symmetrical as you can — they're a pair.
Step 3 — Wings, tails and faces
Layer crackers in overlapping rows along each bird's side for the wings, fanning a few more at the back as tail feathers. Then give them faces: a carrot-sliver beak on each bird, angled toward the other, and an olive eye. This is the step where the board comes alive.
Step 4 — Fill, match, and serve
Tuck green grapes and cucumber into any gaps, checking the two birds still mirror each other. Finish with rosemary sprigs between and around them for greenery, and serve fresh — shaped boards are best assembled within an hour or two of guests arriving.
